Two builds on the same model van can differ by tens of thousands of dollars. Here's what moves the needle most:
1. Van size and layout complexity
A compact SWB HiAce or short Transit is a smaller canvas — less cabinetry, simpler electrical, fewer metres of insulation. An LWB Sprinter or Crafter gives you room for a fixed bed, full galley, bathroom cubicle and serious off-grid power — but every extra square metre adds labour and materials.
2. Electrical and off-grid systems
A basic 12V setup with a lithium battery and roof solar might sit at the lower end. Add 200Ah+ lithium, an inverter, RedVision monitoring, exterior shower wiring and air conditioning, and the electrical package alone can add $5,000–$10,000 or more.
3. Plumbing, heating and comfort
